Since 1991 I have been actively documenting memorial death sites around the State of Wisconsin. I noticed a cultural shift in how Wisconsinites were expressing their grief and how they were taking ordinary pieces of real estate and declaring them sacred by building these memorials. I initially was attracted to these sites because of their inherent beauty but also because of a particular case I had when I worked as an Emergency Medicine Physician. As I started to investigate and photograph these sites, I quickly realized their power and intimate nature. I have shown this body of work, built and maintain a website, and created a book in an attempt to keep their memories alive. The State of Wisconsin Historical Society is collecting the website as it grows in recognition of this cultural shift.
