on these 85 degree days living without air conditi on these 85 degree days living without air conditioning there is some small reprieve working on ice photos from this last winter born and raised a great lakes boy and living in the northern state of wisconsin where there is more freshwater than anywhere else in the world, i have witnessed ice in all its incarnations, since 1983 i have documented these formations that occur on our lakes and especially the lake i live across from – lake monona, through this body of work, i have come to subconsciously name these formations mainly in order to catalog them: crackle, tornado, block, effervescent, wispy, frothy, pancake, glass, interstellar… and then I read that in the inupiaq dialect of wales, alaska, there are 70 documented terms for ice… i guess i have not seen all of them after all and hence i present a new formation [to me at least] that i am calling “lace ice”

i worked as a trauma specialist in a madison hospi i worked as a trauma specialist in a madison hospital for 30 years and have some insight into the life of a police officer, what i can tell you from that particular perspective is that policing is 95% mundane and 5% sheer terror, let’s face it - there are more guns than people in this country and we are asking these folks to “keep the peace’ in a most volatile, divisive country, where the minimum wage sucks, homelessness abounds, public schools are failing our youth, mental health access is abominable and frequently fueled by an outrageous drug problem, etc....that it is an incredibly difficult job that i would not wish on anyone so when i see these egregious displays of incredible unjustified violence on the people they serve, i can only think that policing in its current form is an utter failure and a complete revamping of policing policies is long overdue and they represent an abysmal failure of our country as a whole please consider using the QR code to donate to the cause or donate to gofundme.com/f/justice-for-corey-telling-his-story and help to keep this message alive R.I.P Corey Ruiz

as we ramp up this patriotic fervor celebrating 25 as we ramp up this patriotic fervor celebrating 250 years of independence from the brits i reflect on a simple fact — if you count every year that featured any official combat, undeclared conflict, or extended military action, the united states has been at war for about 93% of its history, THAT IS 230 YEARS!! honestly, i am disgusted by this democratic experiment and frankly P.O.ed at the folks that continue to sweep these historical wars and other historical and contemporary egregious flaws, like racism, women’s rights, workers rights, corruption, bipartisanship, unfettered capitalism... under the rug by saying “democracy is a work in progress” and “it is better than any other system”, as we once again bomb brown people in foreign lands while we luxuriate around our grills, 20 year bourbons and endless amounts of food me?....i will not be celebrating, but mourning what we could be gil scott heron says it best [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beqC_m2pU1U]
